1. All classes shall be open to amateur musicians and amateur ensembles who are residents of the Sunshine Coast. An "amateur" shall be defined as a performer whose principle source of livelihood is not obtained from the practice of or from solo performances in the particular category in which he or she is participating. Professionals in community ensembles are allowed as long as they regularly rehearse with that ensemble.
2. In solo classes where definite age groups are specified such as under 11, under 14, etc., or where distinct stages of progression are specified such as Junior, Intermediate, etc., performers may enter only one such classification with each instrument.
3. All participants must perform a different piece each year.
4. Participants up to and including grade 7 may enter the same classes and grade level for two years, with the exception of award winners and successful exam candidates who must proceed to the next level.
5. Grade 8, 9, 10 and ARCT performers may enter the same classes and grade level for two years, regardless of awards received.
6. Performers who have completed a discipline's grades or are at a post-secondary education level may enter at the open level of a discipline in order to be eligible a sa candidate for the Provincial Festival.
7. An adult performer is 19 years or older. . Adults who do not wish to be considered a Provincial Candidate or to participate in any other grade level are still eligible for adult awards.
8. Open class entries are for adjudication only and are eligible for certificates only, except as in rule # 6. Students may perform pieces from other grades in this class.
9. Music chosen from the Sunshine coast Festival of the Performing Arts Selection List or current Royal Conservatory of Music Syllabus must be performed in its entirety up to a maximum time of 18 minutes. The list and Festival Syllabus are on reserve at the Gibsons and Sechelt public libraries. The list can be viewed on this web site < OFFICIAL SELECTION LIST> or at the Gibsons and Sechelt public libraries. You can also contact the discipline chair. For all other classes where a syllabus selection contains several movements, only two (2) contrasting movements need be performed. Note: For questions regarding the appropriateness of any selection, contact your discipline chair for referral to the board.
10.Performers are expected to be properly prepared and suitably dressed. Knowledge of stage decorum, musical period, styles and composers will enhance the performer's experience.
11.Additional rules pertinent to each discipline are noted at the beginning of their respective classes.

The Festival Committee reserves the right to make the final decision on any question or irregularity that may arise.

1.The time and order of each performance will be shown in the Official Programme. Programmes will be on sale prior to the start of the Festival at Sew Much More (upper Gibsons), MeloMANIA (Roberts Creek), Tailwind Books in Sechelt, and Sunny's Hair Boutique (Madeira Park).
2.The time allocated for each performance is approximate and may be changed due to withdrawals or other unforeseen circumstances. Performers should be in the venue at least 15 minutes before their performance time.
3.The Board reserves the right to disqualify any performer who is not ready to perform when called by the adjudicator's secretary.
4.The Board reserves the right to alter the time of any performance if special circumstances warrant.
5.The Board assumes no responsibility for supplying or arranging for accompanists.
6.Performers will take their published scores to the adjudicator's secretary immediately prior to their individual performance. The performance will commence when the adjudicator gives the signal to do so. Published scores should be retrieved from the secretary before leaving the venue.
No unauthorized reproductions of scores (photocopies) are allowed!
7. Adjudications will be given to the performer at the conclusion of the class. All other award information will be relayed to your music teacher's studio.
8. Only members of the festival committee may communicate with the adjudicator unless the adjudicator initiates the conversation. Failure to comply could result in disqualification of a performance.
9. Suitable dress and knowledge of stage decorum, musical period, styles and composers will enhance the performer's experience.

1.Awards, certificates, trophies and scholarships are given to encourage and assist performers in the pursuit of further excellence in the performing arts. To merit these awards performers must reach a standard of accomplishment satisfactory to the adjudicators whose decisions are final.
2.To be eligible for an award, a performer must participate on the same instrument in at least two solo classes other than Sight Reading, Improvisation or Composition. In Piano and Violin Classes, one of the selections must be from the Sunshine Coast Festival of the Performing Arts Official Selection List or the current Royal Conservatory of Music Syllabus. In all other solo classes, one of the selections must be from a recognized syllabus. The performer's two top assessments of 85% and over will be averaged for the overall awards in the Junior, Intermediate and Senior sections of each discipline. All other awards are earned with the highest assessment for the pertinent class or classes.
3.Adjudication will be given to each performer at the conclusion of each adjudicated session.
4.Adjudication comments sheets, certificates and sheet music will be given to each performer after the adjudication of the class.
